The article reports on the use of chat as a virtual reference service in academic libraries. The use of chat in academic libraries as a virtual reference service is another way of adapting to the changing and evolving needs of students. The interaction of librarians with students have been increasingly assisted by electronic mails, virtual reference, instant messaging services and Web logs. Moreover, several new services are being offered by librarians in order to assist the students in their needs. These services include the synchronous chat-based reference, which also resulted to successful digital reference services nationwide.
