Abstract:

This article will explore the world of the ''new reference librarian'' and examine how advances in technology have changed forever the way reference librarians interact with both patrons and reference sources. Special attention will be paid to the current uses that reference librarians make of technology to deliver reference assistance to remote users, along with a section on whom a reference librarian is expected to serve today. Finally, predictions for the future of reference librarians will be provided, including suggestions for new librarians entering the field.
