Abstract:
The primary function of any library is to respond to its patrons' needs. To satisfy their patrons' needs for up-to-date, current information, libraries are upgrading their library systems into integrated automated systems which will improve their patrons' access to their library collections, allow for remote access using electronic mail and the Internet, increase the availability of information and the library collection, and provide access to material on CD-ROMs and online databases. This paper will explore the topics of electronic mail (e-mail) and e-mail services currently available to library patrons.
While this paper will be primarily geared to library science students, it may also be of interest to library practitioners and other people who are interested in topics related to electronic mail.
