Abstract:
Questions that should be considered before launching e-mail electronic reference are presented. These include who it is being done for, how it fits in to the work, what the policy is, which staffers will do it, how staffers will be trained, whether questions and answers are archived for the public, how replies are signed, what is the turnaround time, whether autoresponders will be used, whether other online sources or experts will be used to answer patron questions, whether a frequently asked question file or page will be built, and where to learn more.
