Abstract:
Argues that few participants in the Federal Depository Library program (FDLP) of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) judging by the literature and conference proceedings – clearly understand how difficult it can be to provide and maintain public access to government information, regardless of format, to user communities with diverse needs and skills. Maintains that government information librarians in today's electronic environment face new and difficult challenges, especially in the arena of quality public service provision. Given the lack of clear guidelines for FDLP participants to follow, proposes a new set of guidelines based on a reference-oriented literature, which FDLP participants might wish to adopt.
