Abstract:
The article presents a study about the need for the collaborative digital reference service (CDRS) in the post industrial society. The CDRS enables the internet user community to get answers to their queries from anywhere, at any time, and in any language through an international digital network of libraries and institutions. The transition from digital libraries to networked digital libraries in order to provide digital reference services in a collaborative manner and the need to understand the protocols and profiles required for CDRS are discussed.
