Abstract:
Charles McClure, Frances Eppes Professor at Florida State University's School of Information Studies, has been examining the effects of the digital reference services being used to provide around-the-clock reference services and remote information access. He contends that most libraries do not have good measures of the effectiveness of providing reference services electronically. McClure believes that the problems that arise in the networked environment can best be dealt with through cooperative efforts and notes that librarians need to keep sharing information and need to know what others are doing.
