This paper discusses the implementation and administration of an electronic reference service, called REFER, during its first two years of service at the University of South Australia library. Statistics on usage, types of users, types of queries and different reference sources used, as well as possible future directions that the service might take, are reviewed. Reference requests are submitted remotely via an email address or a form on the libraryâ€™s home page. Guidelines and policies for use are also found on the REFER Web page.
