Abstract:
The article offers tips for browsing a library's virtual reference service. The first thing to know about databases is that a researcher cannot nail down results with a single search. When using databases, the best tool one can use is a thesaurus or subject identifier. In cases where databases do not have thesaurus-type links in their records, the best way to create a subject-like search is to type a term into the search box that describes your subject and then any other possible synonyms, separating each by the word or. Add keywords to the subject identifier in order to narrow down the search.
