Abstract:

The article presents information on the emergence of the virtual reference services in the library services in Illinois over the past half decade. The term "virtual reference" generally refers to a number of services including remote access to electronic databases, e-mail reference, and chat communications in which the librarian can conduct a "live" interview with the user, escort them through various resources and provide summary transcripts with live links. The service is very useful for the user who do not always wish to come to the library.
