Abstract:
This paper describes the collaborative efforts of South- eastern Louisiana University librarians and faculty working on two campuses to provide one-on-one research coaching via digital reference service. In the fall of 2002, the University's Sims Memorial Library instituted a Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) for library patrons. In the summer of 2003. the Library began offering dedicated online VRD service to undergraduate and graduate Nursing students. Librarians worked with Nursing faculty to promote this service to students in two courses, the undergraduate Research in Nursing and the graduate Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing. The purpose of dedicated VRD is to augment traditional bibliographic instruction with dedicated virtual reference sessions once students refine their research objectives and to enhance library access for graduate students who par- ticipate in a three university consortium.
