Abstract:
The writer draws on his experience as the project director for digital reference at the University of California, Los Angeles, to offer advice for librarians on managing a virtual reference service. The advice relates to staffing, training, allocating staff time to deal with digital patrons, opening hours, responding to questions from digital patrons, marketing the service, maintaining librarian privacy, and getting feedback.
